Let me just say how excited I have been to write this post on my experience with microblading. For me, my eyebrows have always been such a struggle.. I literally have had a hard time shaping and drawing them in for as long as I can remember! I have gotten them waxed and re-shaped soooo many times and had so many people ruin them! I finally had found an eyebrow pencil that was filling them in and semi giving me the shape that I was yearning for – but this was a process for me each day to get them exactly how I wanted – and honestly, ain’t nobody got time for that! Before this appointment, I had been growing them in and waiting to hopefully find someone here that I could trust to wax and re-shape them yet again for me (hence why they look so wild in the befores ha!).
Over the last few months, I had seen a few people via Instagram talk about and get microblading done! Once I saw how incredible some of these ladies eyebrows were after the microblading process, I started looking into it more seriously. I instantly felt intimidated and a little nervous to actually commit, but knew I wanted to try it for myself!! Well a few weeks ago, I finally did it – and I couldn’t be happier with the results… as you can tell from the very dramatic before and after photos above, my eyebrows are like the ones I always dreamed having of thanks to Suzanna at Tori Blush.
I’m sharing some of the main questions that I had about microblading and feel free to leave any others you have in the comments below!
What is microblading?
It is a less invasive form of semi-permanent makeup done with a hand held tool with “microblades” that place pigment into the superficial dermis of the skin.
Is it painful?
Before the actual microblading begins, a strong topical anaesthetic cream is used to help numb the area. For me personally, I felt very little pain or discomfort – although it can typically vary person to person!
How long does it take?
I was surprised to find out that the actual microblading portion was only around 10-15 minutes! The appointment was two hours long, but the majority of it was spent figuring out the right shape (mine needed a ton of work to achieve this) and Suzanna was very detailed in determining the best shape for my face! At this time, the pigment is also chosen. Once the shape and pigment are determined, the topical anaesthetic cream is then applied and you get to wait patiently for it to kick in! 4-6 weeks after this first appointment, there is a second appointment where they touch them up (I haven’t had mine just yet).
Did it hurt after?
Personally, they didn’t hurt me after at all. I applied my ointment and just made sure they were always moisturized and never dry! I left the appointment with beautiful brows and looked and felt completely normal after. There will be a little flaking, but consistency with moisturizing is key! Again though, this can vary person to person depending on pain tolerance etc.
How long will it last?
Though there are many factors that can determine this for each individual, they can last between 1-3 years! By 1 year, they should be faded, so a touch up is a great option at this point. When you initially get them, they are definitely darker but they fade (it’s been three weeks for me, and they have lightened a good amount).
Do they look real?
Yes! Honestly, my husband was so shocked when I came home and he saw them. The little lines look exactly like my eyebrow hairs. It is so natural looking! I do believe though, that you need to go to someone who is reputable and knowledgable on eyebrow shape etc. That is one thing that is super important because you want to leave with eyebrows you will be happy with! The goal is to create eyebrows that look real, not fake tattooed or drawn on ones!

So from my experience, I can completely say that anyone who wants their eyebrows to be wake-up ready each day – I recommend getting microblading! Just like I love eyelash extensions (which Tori Blush also does), it’s that one less step you need to do each day to get ready! Eyebrows are such a focal point, and when they are the right shape, and frame your face, it makes such an impact on your overall look. I have felt so much more confident having eyebrows that I actually love! Lastly, I just wanted to thank Suzanna at Tori Blush for doing such an incredible job and giving me my dream eyebrows (literally) – so for any of you who live here in the lower-mainland or Vancouver area, you need to go! They provide a ton of other services including eyelash extensions, and makeup and hair! Follow their Instagram here to see some more great before/afters.
If you girls have any other specific questions, let me know in the comments! I will post a follow-up pic on my Instagram at my second appointment as well for those interested in seeing them at this point. Thanks for stopping by!!
