Photography: Mary Konkin
When it comes to family photos – it can feel SO stressful. Picking outfits, praying for perfect weather, finding the best spot and just hoping that somehow your kids will cooperate for even ONE photo. Well, let me just say, with this shoot, everything that could’ve gone wrong, went wrong – but somehow my beautiful and talented friend Mary Konkin, worked her magic and turned the chaos, horrible weather and grumpy kiddies into a magical rainy photo shoot.
Choosing outfits can be super hard – I literally was so busy before this shoot, that I had to dig into our closets and find whatever worked. Usually I feel a more neutral color pallet is the best way to go – browns, creams, and small pops of color! Typically I pull one outfit together, and then build around it with the others. Once I select them, I lay them out on the floor and try to visualize how they will all pair together. Then I make any changes whether it’s a different shirt, or shoes etc. I snagged this dress last year, and had yet to wear it – so it was the perfect time to pull it out for this shoot!
Below I’ve linked some cute options similar to mine from Shopbop – this dress is Free People. I always love their boho, whimsical styles and the color scheme went well to match with everyone else! I also included similar items to Joel’s look. Both of the kids’ outfits are mostly from Zara.
